How to Insert Pages into a PDF Using PDF.co and Zapier
This tutorial shows you how to insert one PDF into another by splitting the original document and merging the resulting sections in the required order.
In this example, a one-page PDF will be inserted between pages 2 and 3 of the original document.
What You’ll Need
- A PDF.co account
- A Zapier account
- A source PDF with at least three pages
- The PDF page or document you want to insert
- Direct, downloadable links to both files
Step 1: Create the Trigger
Create a new Zap and select the app that supplies the source PDF.
For example:
- Select Google Drive.
- Choose New File in Folder as the trigger event.
- Connect your Google Drive account.
- Select the folder containing the source PDFs.
- Test the trigger and select a sample file.
The source file must be available through a direct, downloadable URL. When using Google Drive, map its Web Content Link where a URL is required.
Step 2: Split the Original PDF
- Add an action and select PDF.co.
- Choose Split PDF Into Multiple Files.
- Click Add a new account.
- Sign in to PDF.co and authorize Zapier.
- Map the source PDF’s downloadable URL to Source File URL.
- Enter the required sections under Page Numbers/Ranges.
To insert a page between pages 2 and 3, use:
1-2,3-This produces two PDFs:
- The first output contains pages 1 and 2.
- The second output contains page 3 through the final page.
Enter an output filename if required, then test the action. Confirm that PDF.co returns URLs for both sections.
Step 3: Merge the Files in the Required Order
Add another PDF.co action and select PDF Merger.
In Source File URL, add the documents in this order:
- The first URL returned by the split action
- The direct URL of the PDF being inserted
- The second URL returned by the split action
If the field uses a list, add each URL as a separate item. If it accepts a comma-separated value, separate the three URLs with commas while preserving their order.
Enter a filename such as:
pdf-with-inserted-page.pdf
Test the action. PDF.co will return a temporary URL for the completed PDF.
Step 4: Save the Completed PDF
To store the result automatically:
- Add Google Drive as another action.
- Choose Upload File.
- Select the destination folder.
- Map the PDF.co result URL to the File field.
- Enter or map the output filename.
- Test the action.
Open the uploaded PDF and confirm that the inserted page appears in the correct position.
Step 5: Publish the Zap
Review the workflow:
- The trigger supplies the original PDF.
- PDF.co splits it at the insertion point.
- PDF.co merges the first section, inserted PDF, and remaining section.
- Google Drive saves the completed document.
Publish the Zap when the test succeeds.
