PDF to PDF/A-3b API, with Validation Built In
Converted files are checked by veraPDF, the PDF Association's open-source validator. You get the file, the compliance result, and the report behind it.

What Is PDF/A?
PDF/A is a PDF locked down for long-term storage: every font embedded, colors defined, no encryption, no JavaScript, no links to outside files. Archives, courts and tax authorities require it because the file has to open the same way in 30 years.
Version 3 allows attachments, which is why e-invoices are built on it. The "b" means basic conformance; level "a" also requires a tagged structure.
The A is for Archive, not Accessibility. Accessible PDFs are a separate standard, PDF/UA.
Converted Isn't the Same as Compliant
A converter can write a file that looks like PDF/A and still fails the standard, usually because of something inside the source. The validation report is how you find out either way.

How It Works
Send a URL
One parameter. No profiles or policies to configure.

We Prepare the File
Link flags are corrected so links come through conversion. Fonts that aren’t embedded are handled, and flagged if the appearance may change.

Convert to PDF/A-3b
Features PDF/A doesn’t allow are removed. Changes we can detect are reported in warnings.

Validate
veraPDF checks the output against the PDF/A-3b profile.

Warnings, Not Surprises
When we change your file to make it conform, the response says so.

Font Substitutions
Some PDFs reference a font without embedding it. We list those fonts so you can check whether the text still looks right.
Elements Changed or Removed
Annotations, form fields and links, named individually.

Questions
No. The A stands for archive. Accessibility is PDF/UA, which this endpoint doesn't produce.
An e-Invoice endpoint is coming soon! It will embed your XML and validate it against EN 16931.
Yes. We set the flags PDF/A requires before converting. Anything still removed is listed in warnings.
The PDF and its report are kept for the same period, up to 7 days.
