How to Extract PDF Metadata Using PDF.co API Tester
Read a PDF’s stored title, author, keywords, and other document properties using PDF.co’s PDF Info Reader.
Step 1: Open the API Tester
Sign in to your PDF.co account and copy your API key.
Open the PDF Info Reader API Tester, click Try it, and enter your key in the x-api-key field.
The request uses: POST https://api.pdf.co/v1/pdf/info
Step 2: Configure the Input
In the request body fields:
- url: Enter a direct link to your PDF that PDF.co can access.
- async: Set to
false. - password: Enter the document’s password only if required.
Clear any prefilled example values in profiles, httpusername, and httppassword unless your document requires them.
For a quick test, use this request body:
{
"url": "https://pdfco-test-files.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/pdf-info/sample.pdf",
"async": false
}If your PDF is stored locally, upload it to PDF.co’s built-in file storage and use the resulting file link.
Step 3: Send the Request
Run the request from the tester and review the response panel.
For this synchronous request, the document information is returned directly in the JSON response’s info object. You do not need to download a converted PDF.
Step 4: Read the Metadata
Look inside info for properties such as:
Title: The stored document title.Author: The stored author name.Keywords: Keywords assigned to the document.Subject: The document subject.CreationDateandModificationDate: Stored date values.PageCount: The number of pages.
Metadata fields may be empty if they were never populated. The API reads existing metadata; it does not infer an author, title, or keywords from the page content.
You can use these values to index documents, populate records, or organize your PDF library. See the PDF Info Reader documentation for the complete response example.
