Extract a Borderless Table from a PDF Using PDF.co Document Parser
Use Document Parser’s automatic table detection to extract rows and columns from a PDF table without visible gridlines.
Step 1: Create a Template
Sign in to PDF.co and open the Document Parser Template Manager.
Create a new template and open it in the editor.
Step 2: Load the PDF
Load a sample PDF containing your borderless table.
For this example, use a table on the first page. Keep the original document available for comparison with the extracted results.
Step 3: Add Automatic Table Detection
Select Add Object, then choose Table from Auto Detection.
Name the object BorderlessTable and configure:
- Page index:
0for the first page. - Table index:
0for the first detected table on that page.
Adjust these indexes if your target table is on another page or follows another table. Both indexes begin at zero.
See the Document Parser Template Creation Guide for the available table settings.
Step 4: Test the Extraction
Run the template and review the extracted table.
Compare it with the source PDF, checking that:
- Each value appears in the correct column.
- All expected rows are included.
- Multiline descriptions remain associated with the correct row.
- Numbers and decimal places are preserved.
Adjust the template settings and rerun the test if needed.
Step 5: Save the Template
Save the template with a descriptive name and copy its Template ID.
Use that ID with the Document Parser API or the Document Parser integration in Make or Zapier to reuse the extraction settings on other PDFs.
In this tutorial, you learned how to auto-find tables and extract the borderless table in a PDF using PDF.co Document Parser. You also learned how to create a new template.
